why are tsunamis dangerous?

In the open ocean a tsunami may go unnoticed. It's wave height is generally less than three feet(one meter) high, but when it reaches shallow water it can reach heights of 120 ft(37m)

tsunamis are quite often a series of waves called train.unlike windblown waves,a tsunami travels at speeds of about 500 mpsbut slows down to about 45 mph when it reaches shallow water.
